Autohome was founded in 1971 originally as a "Get You Home Service", at the time when the existing Motoring Organisations merely offered Roadside Assistance. In 1974 following changes in legislation, Autohome Insurance Ltd was formed and authorised by the Board of Trade to underwrite the members of Autohome Ltd. In the same year Autohome extended their service to provide Roadside Assistance in addition to recovery home. Since 1971, Autohome has seen many changes and the service has evolved to include a Pan European Network. In the following years the equipment used to facilitate assistance has improved dramatically, modern Spectacle Lifts, make recovery quicker and easier without causing damage to the broken down vehicle. Computers have also made a big impact, Autohome was the first organisation of its kind in the U.K. to manage their membership records on computer. The latest technology to be utilised is a computerised mapping system, ensuring that members are located quickly and accurately. Despite the changes, the Mission Statement has remained the same "To provide the best possible service to its members and clients and ensure continuing reinvestment for the future".
